2006 Season Summary

The spring a 2006 was another successful season with 1.2 million seedlings planted.  The crew was based in Halifax with two houses rented for planters with a few south end locals joining the ‘Nishers.  The season began with contracts being completed for Neehan Paper and as the crew found out – Piss tanks must be on site and must be filled or a short vacation is in order!!  The first week of June the crew moved to Parrsboro and the Glooscap Campground to plant 500,000 seedlings.  The season was completed with a couple more weeks in Halifax.

Tree planting legend Trevor ‘Skillz’ MacDonald lead the crew again in 2006 but a Friday night accident late in the season ended his career.  Skillz’s drive and ambition will never be forgotten.  Dylan Quinn had a record setting year with a total of 163,716 seedlings planted.  Female rookies Rene MacKay-Lyons, Rachel Potter and Victoria Goodday kept things light and fun on the weekends.  The Larch Street flat with the Austen boyz, Murphy and U.P set the bar in production during and on Friday night.

A fall plant in the valley was headed up by a group of Folklore planters from BC with Alice Munroe leading the way.  The fall of 2006 was the start of Coastal Trilling’s pre-commercial thinning (PCT) operations with Ivan Aikens supervising.

Overall, 2006 was a great year and laid the ground out for a huge 2007 season.  Thanks to everyone who was a part of it!!!
