Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to announce the arrival of 15,000 tree seedlings to be planted in Point Pleasant Park during the week of May 21st to May 25th, 2007.

A tree planting ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 22nd at 11 a.m. The planting area for the event will be off of Prince of Wales Drive, below Fort Ogilvy.  Attendees are asked to remain on the road to avoid trampling of the tree seedlings.

Park Patrol vehicles will be present at the Shakespeare-by-the-Sea building for those who require assistance.

Nine species of trees will be planted in four areas of the park: the area south of Fort Ogilvy bordered by Prince of Wales Drive and Sailors Memorial Way; the area between Heather Road and Sailors Memorial Way (behind the Sailors Memorial); the area north of Heather Road, east of the existing forest canopy; and the area south of Maple Road and west of Cambridge Drive.

Coastal Trilling Reforestation
of Halifax will be preparing the sites on Monday, May 21st.  Pathways and trails will remain open, but reforestation equipment will be present in these areas.  HRM asks the public to use caution in these areas.  We also ask the public to stay on the path to avoid damaging the newly planted forest.  We ask that dog owners keep their pets on the paths and trails to avoid trampling of the tree seedlings.
